How it works

How ZeroMotion Dictate Works

  1. 01

    Press

One key, anywhere in Windows. ZeroMotion Dictate wakes up. Nothing before this moment is recorded.

  2. 02

    Speak

Talk like you'd talk to a person. Press Space to latch it on, let go of the key, and keep going as long as you want.

  3. 03

    It's already typed

Your words land at the cursor and go to your clipboard. Email, Slack, code, a doc. Wherever you were.

What you get

What's Included

Talk naturally

No commands to memorize. Ramble, pause, think out loud. ZeroMotion Dictate listens for as long as you hold the key, or latch it on and lean back.

Cleans up the filler, on your PC

The ums and uhs come out before the text lands. The cleanup runs locally, and a guard stops it from adding words you didn't say. Your meaning stays yours.

Works in any app

Email, Slack, code, docs, the browser. If there's a cursor, ZeroMotion Dictate types there, and a copy lands on your clipboard in case you want it somewhere else.

Local architecture

Offline Speech to Text: Your Voice Stays on Your PC

Cloud dictation apps send your voice to a company's servers and ask you to trust what happens to it. ZeroMotion Dictate has no server. The model sits on your disk, runs on your processor, and hands the text back to you.

  • No account
  • No history, no sync
  • Nothing collected, so nothing to opt out of
  • App source code public on GitHub

Why we built it

Why We Built It

I run ZeroMotion Marketing in Houma, Louisiana, and I dictate all day: client emails, briefs, notes and code. Every tool that did this well required a subscription and sent my audio to a server. I built the version I wanted, and I have used it every day since.

It is free to keep. No trial, no locked features and no plan that starts charging later. The source code is public on GitHub, so you can verify where your voice goes.

Wispr Flow Pro: $15 a month, and your audio is processed in their cloud ZeroMotion Dictate: $0. No account. No word cap.

If it saves you an hour a week, it has done its job. When you want the rest of what ZeroMotion Marketing builds for businesses, we are one call away.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About ZeroMotion Dictate

Is ZeroMotion Dictate really free?

Yes. There is no trial, no paid tier, no account and no word cap. Motion is a free gift from ZeroMotion Marketing to our clients, friends and supporters, and it stays free.

Does my voice get uploaded anywhere?

No. Your speech is turned into text on your own computer by a Whisper speech model running on your processor. ZeroMotion Dictate has no server, so there is nowhere for your audio to go.

Does it need an internet connection?

Transcription does not. The speech model lives on your PC. You need a connection to download ZeroMotion Dictate and to receive its automatic updates.

How do I use it?

Hold Mouse 3 (the scroll wheel click) or your hotkey and talk. Let go and your words are typed where your cursor is and copied to your clipboard. For longer thoughts, press Space to latch it on hands-free, then let go of the key and keep talking.

Will it change what I said?

ZeroMotion Dictate cleans up filler like "um" and "uh" on your computer, and that cleanup has a guard so it cannot add words you didn't say.

What computers does ZeroMotion Dictate run on?

Windows 10 and Windows 11, 64-bit. There is no Mac, iPhone or Android version yet. If you need those today, Wispr Flow supports them.

Why does Windows say "Windows protected your PC"?

ZeroMotion Dictate is new and is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may warn you the first time you run it. Click More info, then Run anyway. You only see it once.

How do updates work?

ZeroMotion Dictate updates itself, so you always have the newest build. The current version is v0.9.2, released July 12.

Can I see the code?

Yes. The app source code is public on GitHub at github.com/udonthavemotion/motion, so you can check for yourself where your voice goes.

Why would a marketing agency give this away?

Logan built ZeroMotion Dictate for his own daily work and released it free. It is a thank-you to the people who support ZeroMotion Marketing, and a small example of the systems we build for businesses.
